Glenn Hisey Retires From The Pope and Young Club After 35 Years

On April 4, 2016, Glenn Hisey retired from his

positions of Executive Secretary and Director of Records for the Pope and Young Club. Glenn has served the Pope and Young Club in various capacities since he became an Official Measurer in 1981.  He has served as a panel measurer at each panel since 1981 (18 times). Glenn has also been one of the measurer training instructors since the beginning of the measurer training classes in 1985. He has trained over 700 of the Club's 800 plus Official Measurers.  In 1987, Glenn was elected as the 2nd Vice-President, and served from 1987-1990. In September of 1989 he became the Pope and

Young Club's Executive Secretary, and served in that role for 11 years, until April 2000. Also in September of 1989, he became the Director of Records, and held that position until April 4, 2016. Of the Club's over 105,000 entries, Glenn has hand-processed each and every one of the last 93,000 plus entries.

From April 2000 to April 2008, Glenn served as the Club's Records Chair. In 2004, when the Pope and Young Club/St. Charles Museum of Bowhunting was moved from Seattle, Washington, to Chatfield, Minnesota, Glenn and Kevin, with the help of faithful volunteers, put together the museum.  From designing, construction, set-up, and expansion, visitors to the museum have enjoyed Glenn’s handiwork and dedication. In 2004, Glenn became the Museum Director, enjoying every part of the history and heritage of bowhunting. From conducting tours, to broadhead collecting, to researching Ishi, Glenn has relished his time spent as the museum's director.

In April 2008 to March 2014, Glenn served as the Club's First Vice-President. In February 2015, Glenn’s son and P&Y Executive Secretary, Kevin Hisey passed away. Glenn accepted the Executive Secretary position again, and served in that role until his retirement. Glenn also authored many articles and chapters in P&Y record books and the Measurer's Manual, and was the editor on several of the Pope and Young Club's record books.

For the last 35 years, Glenn has faithfully and loyally served the Pope and Young Club. It was a labor of love. The Pope and Young Club stands for Ethics and Fair Chase, and he enjoyed working for the good of bowhunting, and the history and heritage of the life-style we all love!

"Thank you to all of the Pope and Young Club measurers and friends that I have met through the Pope and Young Club," says Glenn Hisey. "The Pope and Young Club has been much more than a job for me, it was my life."
