The Pope And Young Club presents the 2019 Stewardship Award to the Kansas Bowhunters Association
During the Pope and Young Club's 31st Biennial Convention held in Omaha, Nebraska, the Club's Stewardship award was presented to the Kansas Bowhunters Association. Pictured (L to R) Doug Clayton, P&Y Conservation Chair, KBA President, Matt Palmquist, KBA Vice-President, Bob McCartney, and KBA Secretary/Treasurer, Barry Raugust. This prestigious award is given to a bowhunter or bowhunting organization that has conveyed a positive, good-citizen image to the hunting and non-hunting public. For many years the KBA has donated decoys to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism to assist in catching poachers, initiated a "Bounty Against Poaching" reward program, has planted hundreds of thousands of trees, and since 2007, has a had college scholarship program for KBA members.
“The Kansas Bowhunters Association was honored to receive the Pope and Young Stewardship award at the P&Y Convention held recently in Omaha, Nebraska,” stated Matt Palmquist, President of the Kansas Bowhunters Association. “The countless hours our members volunteer to promote bowhunting is what makes the KBA great! Thank you and congratulations to the entire KBA family that worked to earn this award.”
The KBA stands for the wise use of our natural resources and the conservation of our wild game and their habitats. The KBA stipulates that only persons who are willing to put forth the effort to assure that the sport will be undertaken in a humane, sportsmanlike manner should attempt to harvest game with a bow and arrow. The impetus of the KBA has been directed, not to the taking of large numbers of game animals, but rather toward the taking of game in an ethical, humane manner... a manner which enhances the hunter's character, not his or her fame.
“State bowhunting organizations are incredibly important to the future of bowhunting,” said Rick Mowery, Communications/Marketing Manager for the Pope and Young Club. “The Kansas Bowhunters Association has set a high bar when it comes to promoting bowhunting and portraying our bowhunting heritage in a positive light. The Pope and Young Club is very proud to present them with this prestigious award. Congratulations to all the KBA members and leadership for a job well done!”
