VELVET DEER CONFIRMED AS NEW WORLD RECORD

POPE AND YOUNG CONFIRMS NEW WORLD RECORD IN THE VELVET NON-TYPICAL COLUMBIAN BLACKTAIL CATEGORY

VELVET DEER CONFIRMED AS NEW WORLD RECORD
August 22, 2023 - Pope and Young, America’s leading bowhunting conservation organization, is excited to announce a new world record Velvet Non-Typical Columbian Blacktail. Pope and Young announced thirteen new world records at their 33rd Biennial Convention in April of this year, with this incredible velvet buck amongst them. 

Angelo Nogara’s buck set the world record with a score of 157 3/8”. Angelo’s score was confirmed at the February 2023 Pope and Young Panel Verification in Reno, Nevada.  This very special buck was taken on July 29th, 2005, in Sonoma County, California.

“After two months of scouting and 21 days of hunting one specific buck, patience and hard work finally paid off,” stated Nogara. “There he was standing broadside just 13 yards from my tree stand. The most majestic blacktail buck I had ever seen. He had made his one and only mistake, and I was there waiting and prepared to take full advantage of it. On the 21st day of the season my dream came true. Little did I know it would become the World Record Columbian Blacktail Non-Typical in Velvet.”
