POPE AND YOUNG WORKING TO PRESERVE WILDLIFE

THE POPE AND YOUNG CLUB IS CONSTANTLY WORKING TO PRESERVE, PROMOTE, AND PROTECT YOUR BOWHUNTING RIGHTS

By Dylan Ray - August 28, 2023

August 29, 2023 - On Saturday, August 19, 2023, members of the Pope and Young Club teamed up with the Arizona Elk Society and the Arizona Game & Fish to fix a damaged wildlife guzzler in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest of Eastern Arizona.  This guzzler provides crucial water to numerous wildlife in the area including, but not limited to; elk, mule deer, bears, lions, turkeys, antelope and numerous small game animals.  The guzzler was severely damaged during this past winter’s storms, so both organizations joined forces to begin the repair phases needed to complete the project. The first phase consisted of removing all of the old corrugated metal sheets that caught the rain water and repairing the inner and outer barbed wire fence to ensure seasonal grazing cattle could not enter the area.  The second phase will occur in a few months, when new panels will be installed.  The Pope and Young Club will be there to provide assistance!

The Pope and Young Club is not only a record keeping organization, but also a conservation organization.  Historically, we have provided annual funding to organizations that focus on solid conservation efforts that benefit bowhunters nationwide.  However, we have also begun to provide ‘boots on the ground’ conservation efforts with state organizations that need assistance with conservation projects just like this.  This is the first joint project between the Arizona Elk Society and the Pope and Young Club and we plan on many more to come.  During this project, P&Y Records Chairman, Roy Grace, and his wife, regular member, Anne Grace, volunteered their time on behalf of Pope and Young to assist in this critical project.

If you know of a local conservation project that may be of interest to the Pope and Young Club, please contact the Conservation Chairman, Doug Clayton, and provide him with the information.  Additionally, if you are interested in assisting (volunteering) with conservation projects on behalf of the Pope and Young Club, please let the conservation chairman know.  Together, we can make a difference in conservation projects
