RECORD BREAKING CARIBOU

RECORD BREAKING VELVET MOUNTAIN CARIBOU IS TOPPING THE CHARTS

By Dylan Ray - September 18, 2023

September 19, 2023 - Pope and Young, America’s leading bowhunting conservation organization, is excited to announce a new world record Velvet Mountain Caribou. Pope and Young announced thirteen new world records at their 33rd Biennial Convention in April of this year, with this incredible bull topping the charts in the Velvet Mountain Caribou category.

J. Dean Bodoh shot this incredible bull in O’Grady Lake, NWT on August 12th, 1990. Bodoh’s score of 432 2/8” was confirmed at the February 2023 Pope and Young Panel Verification in Reno, Nevada.

“This Mountain Caribou was taken in 1990 in the MacKenzie Mountains of the NWT,” stated hunter, J. Dean Bodoh. “He lived his life around O'Grady Lake where he was seen on several occasions but would then disappear. The guides started calling him "The O'Grady Lake Ghost". Finally on the last morning of hunting, we located and stalked him!”

“With only two entries in the Velvet Mountain Caribou category going over 400” this bull is incredible”, stated Tim Rozewski, Pope and Young’s Director of Records. “Bodoh’s bull is an incredible 22” larger than the next biggest Velvet Mountain Caribou. A big congratulations on an incredible bull, and a new world record to hunter, J. Dean Bodoh.”
